Whirlpool Corporation makes more of the appliances in Pinellas homes than any other company. Lid lock failures are very common on Whirlpool and Maytag top-loaders. The lock assembly is a moderate-cost part and a quick replacement.

On older direct-drive washers, agitator dogs or the motor coupling; on newer models, the shifter (shift actuator) or drive components.

Is a Whirlpool washer or dryer worth repairing?

What does F9E1 mean on a Whirlpool washer?

Long drain — the washer couldn't empty in time. Check for a kinked drain hose or a clog in the pump. If the pump is humming but not moving water, it likely needs replacing.
Why does my Whirlpool dryer run but not heat?

On an electric dryer, the thermal fuse or heating element is the most likely culprit. On gas, the igniter or gas valve coils. A blown thermal fuse almost always means the vent is restricted, so the vent should be cleaned at the same time.
