Refrigerator Repair in Clearwater, FL

  • ✓ $79 diagnostic, credited to the repair
  • ✓ 45-day parts & labor warranty
  • ✓ Same-day & next-day visits
  • ✓ 6+ years repair experience

A warm refrigerator is the one appliance problem that can't wait. In a Florida kitchen that stays above 75°F for most of the year, food starts spoiling within hours, so we prioritize refrigerator calls for same-day service across Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, Dunedin and Largo.

We repair top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side, French-door, counter-depth and built-in refrigerators, including the ice makers and water dispensers that fail most often. Diagnosis is methodical: we check temperatures in both sections, look at the evaporator for frost patterns, test fans, defrost parts and the start components, and only then tell you what's wrong. If the sealed system is the problem, we say so before you spend a dollar on parts.

You get a flat written price before any work starts, and the $79 diagnostic is credited toward the repair. Common parts like fan motors, start relays and defrost components often come off the truck the same day. Every repair carries a 45-day warranty on the parts we install and our labor.

Common refrigerator problems we fix

  • Fridge not cooling, freezer still cold

The most common refrigerator complaint. On most modern fridges the cold air is made in the freezer and blown into the fresh-food side, so a failed evaporator fan, a frosted-over evaporator coil from a bad defrost heater, thermostat or control board, or an air damper stuck shut will leave the fridge warm while the freezer stays cold. Most are fixed in one visit.

  • Both sections warm

Points to the condenser side: a dead condenser fan, a clogged condenser coil, a failed start relay or, less often, the compressor or a refrigerant leak. We test the sealed system before quoting so you know whether it's worth fixing.

  • Leaking water on the floor

Typically a clogged or frozen defrost drain, a cracked water-inlet valve or a loose dispenser line. Left alone, it ruins flooring and cabinets — especially in condos where water travels to the unit below.

  • Water pooling inside the fridge

Water under the crisper drawers almost always means the defrost drain is blocked with ice or debris, so melt water from the defrost cycle overflows into the fresh-food section. We clear the drain and find out why it froze — often a failing drain heater or a strip that's come loose.

  • Ice maker or water dispenser not working

Frozen fill tube, failed inlet valve, bad ice-maker module or a clogged filter. Samsung and LG French-door models with in-door ice makers are known for icing problems, and they're very fixable.

  • Loud buzzing, clicking or grinding

Usually an evaporator or condenser fan motor wearing out, or a compressor struggling to start. Clicking every few minutes often means a failing start relay. A fan blade hitting ice is a sign of a defrost problem, not just a noisy fan.

  • Frost build-up or freezer too cold

A failed defrost system or a door gasket that no longer seals. In humid Gulf air, a bad gasket frosts a freezer fast.

  • Food freezing in the fresh-food section

The opposite problem: a damper stuck open, a failed thermistor reading the wrong temperature, or a control that's calling for cooling non-stop. Lettuce and milk freezing near the back vent is the classic sign.

  • Running constantly and still not cold enough

A compressor that never cycles off usually can't shed heat — a dusty condenser coil, a slow condenser fan or a fridge boxed into a tight cabinet. If those check out, a weak compressor or low refrigerant charge is next on the list.

Why Clearwater refrigerators work harder

Coastal humidity loads door gaskets and defrost systems, salt air corrodes condenser coils on homes near the Gulf and Intracoastal, and summer storms send power surges that take out control boards. Cleaning the condenser coil once a year is the single best thing you can do for a fridge here.

Repair or replace?

Most refrigerator repairs under $400 are worth doing on a fridge less than 10–12 years old. A sealed-system repair on an older builder-grade fridge often isn't — we'll tell you straight when replacement makes more sense, and we don't sell appliances.

Our repair-or-replace guide →

Before you call

  • Check the temperature dial didn't get bumped to a warmer setting
  • Make sure the vents inside the fridge aren't blocked by food
  • Listen for the fan inside the freezer when the door switch is pressed
  • Check the breaker and that the fridge is fully plugged in
  • Pull the base grille and look for a coil blanketed in dust
  • Look for a demo, showroom or vacation mode on the display — it can shut off cooling
  • Feel the door gasket for gaps and close the door on a dollar bill; it should resist when pulled

Refrigerator repair FAQ

How much does refrigerator repair cost in Clearwater?

+

Most refrigerator repairs we do land between $140 and $390 total, including the part, labor and the $79 diagnostic credit. Control boards run $290–$560, and sealed-system work (compressor or refrigerant) runs $650–$1,400. You always get the exact price in writing before we start.

Can you come today?

+

Usually, yes. Refrigerators that aren't cooling get priority for same-day service in Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, Dunedin and Largo. Call or book online and we'll give you an arrival window.

Why is my refrigerator not cooling but the freezer works?

+

Because the fridge gets its cold air from the freezer. If the evaporator fan has stopped, the evaporator coil has iced over from a failed defrost part, or the air damper is stuck closed, cold air never reaches the fresh-food side. These are among the more affordable fridge repairs, typically $180–$340.

Is it worth repairing a 10-year-old refrigerator?

+

Often yes. Fans, defrost parts, valves and ice makers are inexpensive compared with a new fridge. If the compressor has failed on an older standard-model fridge, replacement is usually the better value, and we'll say so.

What should I do with my food while I wait?

+

Keep the doors closed — a full freezer holds temperature for about 48 hours, a fridge for about 4. Move dairy, meat and medication to a cooler with ice if the fridge is above 40°F. Food safety guidance says perishables that sat above 40°F for more than 2 hours should be thrown out.

How long does a refrigerator repair take?

+

Most repairs take 45 minutes to 2 hours once we're on site. A fully iced-over evaporator may need a few hours of manual defrost before the new part can be tested, and some control boards or sealed-system parts are ordered in, typically 1–3 business days.

My LG fridge stopped cooling. Is it the compressor?

+

Sometimes, but don't assume it. LG linear compressors do have a documented history of failures, and LG has offered extended compressor warranties on many models, so check your paperwork first. We test the fans, defrost system and start components before condemning a compressor.

Do you repair built-in and counter-depth refrigerators?

+

Yes, including Sub-Zero, Thermador, KitchenAid, GE Monogram and Café built-ins. We're an independent shop, not factory-authorized for any brand, so if your fridge is still under the manufacturer's warranty, call them first. Out of warranty, we're often the faster and less expensive option.

How do I keep my refrigerator from breaking down?

+

Vacuum the condenser coil once a year, change the water filter about every six months, and keep the door gaskets clean so they seal. Leave a few inches of space behind and above the fridge so it can shed heat. On homes close to the water, a gentle coil cleaning every six months helps slow salt corrosion.
