  • ✓ Same-day & next-day visits
  • ✓ 6+ years repair experience

A dryer that runs but won't heat is the most common dryer complaint in Pinellas — and it usually comes down to a heating element, a thermal fuse, a gas igniter or a vent that's choked with lint. We repair electric and gas dryers, including stacked and compact units in condos and townhomes.

We'll also check your vent run. A blocked vent is the leading cause of dryer fires and the reason many dryers 'stop heating' in the first place. When airflow is restricted, the dryer overheats, a safety fuse or thermostat opens, and the heat shuts off. Replace the fuse without fixing the vent and it will blow again.

Dryers are simple machines, which is why nearly every repair is worth doing. Most visits take under an hour, the $79 diagnostic is credited to the repair, and every job carries a 45-day parts and labor warranty.

Common dryer problems we fix

  • Runs but no heat

Electric: heating element, thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat or a single tripped leg of the 240V breaker. Gas: igniter, flame sensor or gas-valve coils. If a gas igniter glows and then goes out without lighting, the valve coils are the usual suspect.

  • Takes two or three cycles to dry

Almost always airflow: a clogged vent, crushed transition hose or blocked roof/wall cap. Clean vents cut drying time and electric bills. LG dryers show d80, d90 or d95 when they sense a restricted vent.

  • Shuts off early with clothes still damp

Most modern dryers end the cycle when moisture-sensor bars inside the drum read dry. Dryer-sheet and fabric-softener residue coats those bars and fools them. Wiping them with rubbing alcohol fixes many cases; otherwise it's the sensor or the control.

  • Won't start

Thermal fuse, door switch, start switch or a broken belt (many dryers won't run with a broken belt).

  • Drum won't turn

Broken drive belt, worn idler pulley or a failed motor. If the motor hums but the drum doesn't move, the belt has usually snapped or slipped off.

  • Squealing, thumping or grinding

Worn drum rollers, idler pulley or drum glides. Caught early, it's an inexpensive repair. A rhythmic thump is often a flat spot on a roller; a high squeal is usually the idler pulley.

  • Gets too hot

A dryer that scorches clothes or is hot to the touch outside has a serious airflow restriction or a failed cycling thermostat. Stop using it until it's checked — the high-limit thermostat is the last line of defense, and it shouldn't be tested in practice.

  • Burning smell

Stop using the dryer. Lint buildup inside the cabinet or vent is a fire risk. We'll clean it out and find the cause.

Long vent runs in condos and townhomes

Many Clearwater Beach and Largo condos vent dryers through long shared ducts or roof caps that clog faster in humid air. If your dryer is new and still slow, the vent is the problem — not the dryer.

Repair or replace?

Dryers are simple machines; nearly every repair is worth doing. The exception is a failed control board on an inexpensive dryer over 12 years old.

Our repair-or-replace guide →

Before you call

  • Clean the lint screen and check the vent hood outside opens when running
  • Check both breakers — a 240V dryer can tumble without heat on one tripped leg
  • Gas dryers: confirm the gas valve behind the dryer is open
  • Feel the vent hose for crushing behind the dryer
  • Run the dryer with the vent hose disconnected for a few minutes — if it heats and dries normally, the vent is your problem
  • Wipe the metal moisture-sensor bars inside the drum with rubbing alcohol

45-day parts & labor warranty

Dryer repair FAQ

Why is my dryer running but not heating?

+

On electric dryers it's usually the heating element, thermal fuse or a tripped breaker leg; on gas dryers, the igniter or gas valve coils. A blown thermal fuse is often caused by a clogged vent, so we always check airflow too.

How much does dryer repair cost?

+

Most dryer repairs run $130–$320 total, including the $79 diagnostic credit. Drive motors ($280–$460) and control boards ($250–$480) cost more. You get the exact price before work begins.

Can you repair my dryer today?

+

Usually same day or next day across Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo. Thermal fuses, thermostats, belts and common heating elements are small parts we try to keep on hand, so many dryers are running again on the first visit.

Why does my dryer take so long to dry?

+

In most cases the vent is restricted. A dryer needs to push hot, wet air outside; when lint, a crushed hose or a stuck vent flap blocks it, the moisture stays in the drum. Building codes generally cap a standard vent run at around 35 feet, with each elbow counting against that, so long condo runs clog faster.

Is my dryer a fire risk?

+

It can be if lint has built up in the vent or inside the cabinet. Warning signs are clothes that are very hot at the end of a cycle, a burning smell, or a dryer that's hot on the outside. Stop using it and have the vent and cabinet cleaned.

Do you repair gas dryers?

+

Yes. Gas dryer no-heat problems usually come down to the igniter, the flame sensor or the gas-valve coils. If you ever smell gas, don't run the dryer — shut the supply valve, leave the house and call your gas utility first.

How long does a dryer repair take?

+

Most dryer repairs take 30–75 minutes. Belts, rollers, thermal fuses and heating elements are reached by opening the cabinet, and we vacuum out the lint while it's open. Motors and control boards for some models are ordered in, typically 1–3 business days.

Do you clean dryer vents?

+

We clean the dryer cabinet and the accessible vent connection during repairs and tell you if the full vent run needs professional cleaning. Roof-vented runs and long shared condo ducts usually need a dedicated vent-cleaning company with the right equipment.

What kind of vent hose should my dryer have?

+

Use rigid or semi-rigid metal duct. White vinyl and thin foil accordion hoses crush easily, trap lint and aren't recommended by dryer manufacturers. Keep the run as short and straight as you can.
