  • ✓ $79 diagnostic, credited to the repair
  • ✓ 45-day parts & labor warranty
  • ✓ Same-day & next-day visits
  • ✓ 6+ years repair experience

We repair over-the-range, built-in and drawer microwaves — the kind that are worth fixing because replacing them means a mounting job or a custom cabinet opening.

Countertop microwaves are rarely worth a service call; we'll tell you that up front.

Microwaves look simple, but inside is a high-voltage circuit — a transformer, capacitor, diode and magnetron — that can hold a dangerous charge even when the unit is unplugged. That's why this is one appliance we'd ask you not to open yourself. We discharge and test each part safely, give you a flat price before starting, and credit the $79 diagnostic to the repair. Parts and labor carry a 45-day warranty.

Common microwave problems we fix

  • Runs but doesn't heat

Failed magnetron, high-voltage diode, capacitor or a door switch. High-voltage parts are dangerous to test — leave this one to us.

  • Completely dead

Blown internal fuse, usually caused by a failing door switch. Most microwaves use several interlock switches; when one fails, a monitor switch deliberately blows the fuse so the oven can't run with the door open. Replacing only the fuse means it'll blow again.

  • Sparking inside

A burned waveguide cover or damaged cavity paint. Stop using it until it's repaired. Food splatter on the waveguide cover carbonizes and arcs, and running the microwave empty or with metal inside causes the same damage.

  • Turntable, light or vent fan not working

Simple motor, bulb or fan replacements. On over-the-range models, the vent fan and light are independent of the microwave circuit, so they can fail while cooking still works.

  • Keypad not responding or pressing itself

Membrane keypads wear out and can short internally, so buttons stop working or the microwave beeps and starts on its own. Steam from the cooktop below makes this more common on over-the-range units.

  • Loud humming or buzzing

Some hum is normal. A loud, harsh buzz with little or no heat often points to a failing magnetron or high-voltage diode. Stop using it and have it tested.

  • Door won't latch or microwave starts with the door open

Broken door latch hooks or misaligned interlock switches. A microwave that runs with the door open is unsafe — unplug it until it's repaired.

Surge damage

Microwave control boards are among the first casualties of Florida lightning season. A surge protector on the kitchen circuit is cheap insurance.

Repair or replace?

Built-in and drawer microwaves (Sharp, Wolf, GE Profile, KitchenAid) are worth repairing. A magnetron on a basic over-the-range model can approach the price of a new unit — we'll quote both.

Our repair-or-replace guide →

Before you call

  • Check the breaker and outlet
  • Make sure the door closes fully and latches
  • Test with a cup of water for one minute
  • Look for a control lock or child lock symbol on the display
  • Turn off power at the breaker for a few minutes to reset a frozen control
  • Don't remove the outer cover — the capacitor can hold a dangerous charge after unplugging

45-day parts & labor warranty

Every repair carries a 45-day warranty on the parts we install and on our labor.

Microwave repair FAQ

How much does microwave repair cost?

+

Most over-the-range and built-in microwave repairs run $150–$380 total, including the $79 diagnostic credit. Door switches, fuses, fans and turntable motors are at the low end; magnetrons run $240–$380 and control boards $230–$420.

Is it worth repairing an over-the-range microwave?

+

Usually yes for door switches, fuses and fans. For a magnetron on an entry-level model, a new unit may cost about the same; we'll give you both numbers.

Is it worth repairing a countertop microwave?

+

Rarely. Most countertop models cost less to replace than a service visit plus parts. The exception is a high-end countertop or combination convection unit — we'll tell you honestly on the phone before booking.

Why is my microwave running but not heating?

+

The high-voltage circuit has failed somewhere: the magnetron, diode, capacitor, transformer or a door switch. These parts carry lethal voltage, so this isn't a DIY test. A door switch is the least expensive outcome; a magnetron is the most common big-ticket one.

My microwave is sparking. Is it safe to use?

+

No — stop using it. Sparking usually means a burned waveguide cover or chipped interior paint, and continued arcing can damage the magnetron. Replacing the cover is often an inexpensive fix if you catch it early.

Why did my microwave stop working after a storm?

+

Power surges from lightning or the grid coming back after an outage often damage control boards and blow internal fuses. Try resetting the breaker first. If it's still dead, the board or a surge-damaged component needs testing. Note that surge damage isn't covered under most repair warranties, including ours.

Can you replace my microwave if it isn't worth fixing?

+

We don't sell appliances, so we have no reason to push a replacement. If a repair doesn't make sense, we'll tell you, and you can buy whatever model you like from any retailer for installation.

How long should an over-the-range microwave last?

+

They typically wear out sooner than ranges or refrigerators, partly because steam, grease and heat from the cooktop below rise straight into them. Running the vent fan while you cook and cleaning the grease filters every month or two helps the electronics and fan last longer.

How long does a microwave repair take?

+

Most take under an hour on site. Over-the-range units sometimes need to be taken down from the wall to reach the part, which adds time. Model-specific magnetrons and control boards may need to be ordered, typically 1–3 business days.
