Samsung dryers show a short code when they stop or refuse to heat. Like Samsung washers, the same fault can appear with an E or a C depending on the model's age, and some models add a 1 in front (1HC, 1tC). Several of the most common codes trace back to the same root cause: a restricted lint screen or dryer vent.
Heating error — the dryer is overheating, or the heating system isn't working correctly.
tS / tO / tE / tC
Temperature sensor error — the dryer can't read its temperature correctly.
dE / dC / dO / dF
Door error — the dryer can't confirm the door is closed.
9C1 / 9E / 9E1 / 2E
Voltage error — the power supply to the dryer is abnormal.
bE / bE2 / 6E / 6E2
Stuck button — the control thinks a button is being held down.
AC / AE / Et / E3
Communication error — the dryer's internal controls aren't talking to each other.
C80 / C90 / Clg
Vent check result — on models with a vent sensor, these show the dryer has detected a restricted vent.
HC / hE / HC4 / 1HC — Heating error
Heating error — the dryer is overheating, or the heating system isn't working correctly.
Common causes
Clogged lint screen
Restricted, crushed or lint-packed dryer vent
Failed high-limit thermostat or thermal fuse
On electric models, incorrect voltage at the outlet
Try this first
✓Clean the lint screen
✓Check the vent hose behind the dryer for kinks or crushing
✓Make sure the outside vent flap opens and isn't blocked
When to call: If the vent is clear and the code returns, a heating or safety part has likely failed. Lint build-up is a fire risk — stop using the dryer if it's running unusually hot.
tS / tO / tE / tC — Temperature sensor error
Temperature sensor error — the dryer can't read its temperature correctly.
Common causes
Trapped heat from a clogged lint screen or vent
Failed thermistor (temperature sensor)
Loose or damaged sensor wiring
Try this first
✓Clean the lint screen and vent, let the dryer cool, then restart
When to call: If the code comes back with a clean vent, the thermistor or its wiring needs testing.
dE / dC / dO / dF — Door error
Door error — the dryer can't confirm the door is closed.
Common causes
Laundry caught in the door
Loose or damaged door latch or strike
Failed door switch
Try this first
✓Open the door, clear anything in the opening and close it firmly
✓Check the latch isn't loose or broken
When to call: A failed door switch is an inexpensive part and a quick repair.
9C1 / 9E / 9E1 / 2E — Voltage error
Voltage error — the power supply to the dryer is abnormal.
Common causes
Dryer sharing a circuit or running on an extension cord
Loose power-cord connection at the terminal block
Supply voltage outside the dryer's range
Try this first
✓Make sure the dryer is plugged directly into its own outlet — never an extension cord
✓Reset the breaker
When to call: Wiring and outlet problems are a safety issue. If the code persists, have the power cord installation and outlet checked.
bE / bE2 / 6E / 6E2 — Stuck button
Stuck button — the control thinks a button is being held down.
Common causes
A button physically stuck or pressed in
Damaged control panel
Try this first
✓Turn the dryer off and press each button to make sure none is stuck
When to call: If the code returns, the control panel or its board needs replacing.
AC / AE / Et / E3 — Communication error
Communication error — the dryer's internal controls aren't talking to each other.
Common causes
Loose wiring between the display and main board
Failed control board
Try this first
✓Power the dryer off and back on once
When to call: Repeated communication errors need a technician to test the boards and wiring harness.
C80 / C90 / Clg — Vent check result
Vent check result — on models with a vent sensor, these show the dryer has detected a restricted vent.
Common causes
Lint build-up in the vent run
Vent too long or with too many bends
Blocked outside vent hood
Try this first
✓Clean the lint screen and the vent hose behind the dryer
✓Check the outside hood opens freely
When to call: Long vent runs in condos and townhomes often need a professional vent cleaning. A restricted vent will keep killing heating parts.
How to reset
Turn the dryer off, unplug it (or switch off its breaker) for a few minutes, then restore power and start a short timed cycle. If the same code returns, the cause is still there — don't keep restarting a dryer that is overheating.
Codes vary by model and year. Check your owner's manual for your exact model — if a code isn't listed here, call us and we'll look it up.
