Samsung Washer Error Codes: What They Mean & How to Fix Them
Samsung front-load and top-load washers show a short code when they stop a cycle. Older models end the code in E, newer ones in C, and a few use letters like nF or nd — they mean the same thing. Here's what each common code means and what to check before calling for service.
✓Front-load: open the small door at the bottom front, drain the emergency hose into a pan and clean the filter
✓Check the drain hose isn't pushed too far into the standpipe or kinked
When to call: If the filter is clear and you hear a hum but no draining, the pump has likely failed — a common, single-visit repair.
UE / UB / Ub — Unbalanced load
Unbalanced load — the drum can't spin evenly.
Common causes
A single heavy item (comforter, bath mat)
Washer not level
Worn shock absorbers or suspension
Try this first
✓Redistribute the load or add similar items
✓Check the washer is level and the feet are locked
When to call: If it happens with normal, balanced loads, suspension parts are probably worn.
dE / dE1 / dE2 / dC — Door or lid error
Door or lid error — the washer can't confirm the door is locked.
Common causes
Clothing caught in the door
Damaged door latch or strike
Failed door lock assembly
Try this first
✓Open and firmly close the door, checking nothing is caught in the seal
When to call: Door lock assemblies fail frequently on front-loaders; it's a quick repair.
LE / LC — Water leak or water-level problem detected
Water leak or water-level problem detected.
Common causes
Leaking hose or door seal
Drain hose positioned too low (siphoning)
Pressure sensor problem
Try this first
✓Look under and behind the washer for water
✓Make sure the drain hose rises above the water line before entering the standpipe
When to call: Stop using the washer if you see water on the floor.
HE / HC / HE1 — Heating error
Heating error — water isn't reaching temperature, or is too hot.
Common causes
Failed heater
Temperature sensor problem
Scale on the heater from hard water
Try this first
✓Run a cold cycle to keep using the washer while you wait
When to call: Heater and sensor problems need a technician.
OE / OF / OC — Overflow
Overflow — too much water in the tub.
Common causes
Inlet valve stuck open
Pressure sensor or hose problem
Too much detergent causing foam
Try this first
✓Turn off the water supply immediately if water keeps flowing with the washer off
When to call: An inlet valve that won't shut off can flood the room — call right away.
How to reset
To reset most Samsung washers, unplug the washer (or switch off the breaker) for 5 minutes, then plug it back in and run a Rinse + Spin. If the code returns, the cause is still there.
