Error code guide
Modern Whirlpool and Maytag washers use an 'F#E#' format: the F number is the system and the E number is the specific fault. These are the codes we see most often in Pinellas.
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| F8E1 / LF | Long fill — the washer took too long to fill. |
| F9E1 / LD | Long drain — water isn't draining fast enough. |
| F5E1 / F5E2 / F5E3 | Door or lid switch and lock problems. |
| F7E1 | Drive system — the motor or basket can't reach speed. |
| Sd / Sud | Excess suds detected. |
Long fill — the washer took too long to fill.
When to call: If pressure is good and screens are clean, the inlet valve is likely bad.
Long drain — water isn't draining fast enough.
When to call: A humming washer that won't drain usually needs a new pump.
Door or lid switch and lock problems.
When to call: Lid locks are one of the most common Whirlpool top-load repairs.
Drive system — the motor or basket can't reach speed.
When to call: Needs testing by a technician.
Excess suds detected.
When to call: Usually no service needed.
Unplug the washer for 1 minute (or flip the breaker) to clear a code, then try a short Rinse & Spin.
