LG Washer Error Codes: OE, IE, UE, LE, dE & More

LG washers use a two-letter code to tell you why a cycle stopped. Most are simple — a drain filter, a water valve or an uneven load — and some you can fix in five minutes.

OE — Drain error

Drain error — water isn't draining.

Common causes

  • Clogged drain-pump filter
  • Kinked or clogged drain hose
  • Failed drain pump
  • Frozen drain line (not in Florida!)

Try this first

  • Front-load: open the lower-front access panel, drain the small hose into a pan and clean the filter
  • Check the drain hose for kinks

When to call: If the filter is clear, the pump is the next suspect.

IE — Inlet error

Inlet error — not filling with water.

Common causes

  • Closed water valves
  • Kinked hose
  • Clogged inlet screens
  • Failed inlet valve

Try this first

  • Open the valves fully
  • Clean the screens in the hose connections

When to call: If water pressure is fine, the inlet valve likely needs replacing.

UE — Unbalanced load

Unbalanced load.

Common causes

  • Single bulky item
  • Washer not level
  • Worn shocks or springs

Try this first

  • Rearrange the load
  • Level the washer

When to call: Constant UE codes on normal loads point to worn suspension.

LE — Motor locked

Motor locked — the motor can't turn the drum.

Common causes

  • Overloaded drum
  • Item jammed between drum and tub
  • Motor, rotor or sensor problem

Try this first

  • Remove some of the load and reset the washer

When to call: If LE returns with a small load, the motor system needs testing.

dE / dE1 / dE2 — Door error

Door error — the door isn't closed or locked.

Common causes

  • Clothing caught in the door
  • Damaged latch
  • Failed door lock

Try this first

  • Close the door firmly and restart

When to call: A failed lock assembly is a quick repair.

FE — Overfill

Overfill — too much water.

Common causes

  • Inlet valve stuck open
  • Pressure sensor problem

Try this first

  • Turn off the water supply if water keeps running with the washer off

When to call: Call promptly — an inlet valve that won't close can flood the room.

PE — Water-level (pressure) sensor error

Water-level (pressure) sensor error.

Common causes

  • Pressure sensor or its hose

Try this first

  • Reset the washer once

When to call: Needs a technician to test the sensor.

tCL — Not an error

Not an error — a reminder to run the Tub Clean cycle.

Common causes

  • Set number of cycles since the last tub clean

Try this first

  • Run Tub Clean with the drum empty, or press Tub Clean to dismiss

When to call: No service needed. In humid Florida laundry rooms, running it monthly helps prevent mildew.

How to reset

Unplug the washer for 10 minutes to reset it, then run Rinse + Spin. A code that comes straight back means the problem is still there.

Codes vary by model and year. Check your owner's manual for your exact model — if a code isn't listed here, call us and we'll look it up.
